Dr. Besser is a Medical and Surgical Ophthalmologist and founding member of Angeles Eye Institute located in Culver City, CA. He specializes in refractive cataract surgery and laser vision correction. He also provides comprehensive medical and surgical eye care, managing a wide breadth of acute and chronic eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, red/dry eyes, and chalazion removal. Dr. Besser is regarded for his surgical skill and high success rate in the ophthalmology community. He is passionate about maintaining ethical standards in the industry, and for prioritizing patient education and care so that patients feel armed with information and options when it comes to their health.   Education After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Dr. Besser earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Boston University School of Medicine, subsequently completing his residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York Medical College. Dr. Besser was awarded the title of Chief Resident in Ophthalmology during his senior year.  Teaching Dr. Besser is invested in furthering the quality of eye surgery beyond the walls of his own practice. He serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Jules Stein Eye Institute-UCLA, and he teaches advanced cataract surgery to ophthalmology residents at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Hes passionate about teaching residents and fellows and helping to equip the next generation of doctors with the skills and best practices they need to be amazing surgeons.  Teaching at an elite research institution also helps to keep Dr. Besser at the forefront of the latest technology, techniques, and science of ophthalmology, helping him to continue to evolve as a surgeon and offer new tech and options to his patients.  Bio Originally born in Mexico City, Dr. Besser moved with his family to the US when he was eight years old. As an undergraduate at UCSB, he realized that volunteer work hed done at the university health clinic had been fulfilling work for him, and that he wanted to pursue a meaningful career where he could connect with and help others. Dr. Besser was immediately drawn to the challenge and intensity of surgery, especially ophthalmology which also required great hand-eye coordination and precision, but still allowed for building strong relationships with patients. Most of all, he was drawn to the impact of ocular surgery: procedures that in ten minutes can give a patient better vision, freedom, and agency. Improved vision can improve cognition, emotional well being, or help older patients maintain their independence.  Beyond surgery, Dr. Besser enjoys providing ongoing care and building lasting relationships with patients experiencing chronic conditions that require regular maintenance and monitoring including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Eye health can be a key indicator of general health, and many systemic diseases can be caught early through careful ophthalmic examinations.  Instrument Design & Technology Dr. Besser is an early adopter of new equipment, lenses, and technology, and is eager to incorporate new and improved procedures and technologies into his skill set if they can benefit his patients. Always on the hunt for new ways to improve patient outcomes, Dr. Besser has developed and patented several industry-leading surgical instruments. These include the Josephberg/Besser Scleral Depressor, which aids in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases, and Besser Forceps, used in complex cataract procedures. James H. Lee, MD, FAAP is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. After completing his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, he received his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his pediatrics residency training at UCLA. After residency, Dr. Lee was recruited to stay on as faculty at UCLA. In addition to his clinical responsibilities as a general pediatrician, he has leadership roles in medical education. He serves as the Associate Program Director, Continuity Clinic Director, and Resident Advisor for the Pediatrics Residency Training Program. In regards to the medical students at DGSOM, he is the Director of the Preclinical Student Pediatric Clinical Skills Course, the Pediatrics Clerkship Site Director, and a faculty advisor for the medical students interested in pursuing Pediatrics or Primary Care as a field. Dr. Lee is a faculty sponsor for the Pediatrics Interest Group and works with the group to educate the field of Pediatrics to medical students and to help create mentorship opportunities between motivated students and pediatric residents. Dr. Lee's research interests include medical education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and enhancing the care of our pediatric population with a focus on children with special healthcare needs. And, of couse, no training is complete without teaching you the skills you need to know to keep your dog happy and obedient. I intuitively know and understand what your dog is thinking and feeling. Whatever the problems are, they can be fixed. The process isnt complete until I fix the dog and then I teach you how to maintain the solution. Part of eradicating your dogs problems is teaching you how to connect with your pet on the animal level instead of a human level. A big key to training success is your relationship with your dog. There needs to be a balance of trust, respect, structure, understanding, and leadership. I train your dog in a way that he doesnt even realize hes being trained. It happens naturally, like it would in the pack. I dont put a learning curve on any of the dogs that I train. That means wherever I go, so does your dog. I watch every move that your dog makes and he keeps an eye on every move that I make. We essentially are each others shadows. Your dog learns what behavior is expected throughout the day. Many other training facilities only spend fifteen minutes, three times a day with your dog and then the dog goes back into the kennel for the rest of the day. I do not believe this is how to get long lasting change.

Dr. Daniel Kahn is a hospitalist physician who provides inpatient care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Kahn obtained his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He then completed his internship, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at UCLA. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kahn is the director of bedside ultrasound for the internal medicine residency, where he trains residents to utilize ultrasound to augment their diagnostic skills.
