Vacuum pump mechanism is used to remove air or any gas particles from the container that creates vacuum in the vessel. It is used for various industrial applications. It is used in electronics manufacturing units to produce CRT tubes, electric bulbs and lamps, semiconducting materials, glass coating etc.

The vacuum pump functions by removing the molecules of air and other gases from the vacuum chamber (or from the outlet side of a higher vacuum pump if connected in series). While the pressure in the chamber is reduced, removing additional molecules becomes exponentially harder to remove.

Different types of pumps for these vacuum ranges can then be divided into Primary (Backing) Pumps, Booster Pumps and secondary (High Vacuum) Pumps: High, very high and ultra-high vacuum pressure ranges. There are two basic categories of vacuum pump: Gas Transfer Pumps and entrapment or capture pumps.

A two stage design has two rotors and vanes. This means that the first stage generates vacuum and the second stage cleans the system, leading to a deeper ultimate vacuum level. As a result, two stage pumps can produce a deeper vacuum than single stage pumps.

Vacuum, space in which there is no matter or in which the pressure is so low that any particles in the space do not affect any processes being carried on there. A vacuum can be created by removing air from a space using a vacuum pump or by reducing the pressure using a fast flow of fluid, as in Bernoulli's principle.
