While online degrees are new to many, accreditation provides the backing needed to prove that your degree is legitimate. Potential employers and higher education institutions will recognize your degree (even if it still confuses Aunt Margie) and it will open doors for your future.

Colleges and universities that offer online degree programs typically will be cheaper than going to a traditional brick-and-mortar university for a variety of reasons. For many schools that solely specialize in offering online degrees, they have fewer expenses to incur.

Online Bachelor's in Engineering Degrees.  Some colleges offer dual degree programs that enable the student to earn both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. These types of programs can generally be completed in five or six years.

Masters: two-year degree providing additional specialization. Doctorate: five to eight-year program certifying the student as a trained research scholar and/or professor.

Employers said such factors as the accreditation of the college or university, the quality of its graduates and the name of the institution awarding the degree were among other things they considered to make an online degree more credible. Not all employers feel the same way, however.

Online education is no longer the future. Unlike a decade ago, employers no longer automatically perceive online degrees or distance education as inferior or second class. Online degrees are gaining respect. As a result, there is no need to reveal in a cover letter or resume that you earned your degree online.
