DIARRHEA REMEDIES

If there is one thing that people consider to be a big problem when they are outside the house, it is experiencing diarrhea. When people have diarrhea, they cannot concentrate on doing the tasks that they have to do. All that they can think about is the need to go to the bathroom and there are even times when the bathroom is not readily available.

It is possible that once in your life, you have also experienced having diarrhea too. Aside from the fact that it can be embarrassing in the beginning, the effects of this condition may be felt after some time. More often than not, people feel a bit dehydrated and weak after going to the bathroom countless times to let loose stools out. Sometimes diarrhea may be accompanied by symptoms like watery stools, frequent loose, fever, nausea, dehydration, bloating and abdominal pain.

MAIN CAUSES OF DIARRHEA

First of all, have you ever wondered why you have gotten diarrhea? There are several reasons for this. Some of the reasons are the following:

  • Food Allergy – There are times when people eat food products that are not accepted by their body. The body’s tendency then is to release the food products as much as possible and this causes diarrhea.
  • Contaminated Water – Have you ever been to a new place and you have gotten diarrhea from drinking the water? Sometimes, the water does not need to be contaminated to cause diarrhea. It just has to be foreign and it can already make stools become a bit loose.
  • Intestinal Diseases – There are different types of intestinal diseases that people are suffering from right now. One of the most well known ones is IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Having an intestinal disease can result to having diarrhea quite often.

For people who are wondering how long diarrhea lasts, it usually depends on the person who is having it. If people would immediately seek out the home remedies that can be done to help cure diarrhea and the home remedies work, it is possible that it will not last that long.

How to Get Rid of Diarrhea Fast

Diarrhea can cause anyone’s day to come to a screeching halt. If you or someone you know needs to get rid of diarrhea fast, it can be done through dietary or pharmaceutical methods. For instance, consuming bland foods and drinks in small portions should reduce stomach upset, and over-the-counter antidiarrheal medicines can stop diarrhea quickly if you need an urgent fix. Also remember to re-hydrate, since diarrhea can severely rob your body of fluids.

A) Eat liquid food and small portions. One of the best things you can do to make your diarrhea go away quickly is to avoid stressing your digestive system more than necessary. At the onset of a diarrhea bout, liquid foods are generally better than solid foods. Regardless of what you choose to eat, though, you should consume it in small amounts.

  • Instead of eating your main 2 or 3 daily meals, break your meals down into 5 or 6 snack-size meals throughout the course of the day.

  • Similarly, instead of drinking an entire glass of water or fluid all at once, take small sips every few minutes instead.

B) Stick to a bland BRAT diet. Bland foods, including bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and tea contain simple sugars and have little acidity to them. As such, they are less likely to contribute to further digestive upset and more likely to soothe your intestines.

  • Crackers and butter-less mashed potatoes are generally bland enough to consume, as well.

  • If you suspect that your diarrhea has been caused by a mild case of food poisoning, try eating burnt toast. The charred toast is thought to have the same effect that medicinal charcoal has, just in a milder form. Medicinal charcoal is used in hospitals to treat more severe cases of food or alcohol poisoning since it neutralizes toxins.

C) Eat yogurt. If your diarrhea is a side effect of an antibiotic, or if it has another cause behind it but has begun to settle into a less severe state, the probiotics in yogurt can help get your intestines back on track.

  • Probiotics are a type of live bacteria that help maintain the digestive tract.

  • If your diarrhea was caused as a side effect of an antibiotic, it is possible that the medicine killed off the good bacteria living in your intestines. Eating yogurt quickly and effectively restores the balance of bacteria, halting the flow of diarrhea.

D) Settle your stomach with ginger or peppermint. Both of these plants have properties known to soothe and regulate irritated bowels causing diarrhea.

  • Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can calm irritated bowels and also assists digestion. For the strongest effect, steep 2 tsp (10 ml) of fresh grated ginger in 8 oz (250 ml) of water for several minutes. Drink the tea while resting for fast diarrhea relief.

  • Note that if you are sensitive to spicy foods, however, you may need to take ginger supplements instead of using fresh ginger.

  • Fresh mint can also settle a stomach, soothe cramps and irritated intestinal muscles, and put a stop to diarrhea. Steep a few springs in 8 oz (250 ml) of hot water for a few minutes and drink while resting.
