CHARITY FUNDRAISING
Some of the best charities work on a global scale. They are large, complex organizations with budgets exceeding 100 million, and at least 65 million dollars in net assets. They became household names in part because of their exceptional financial management, no easy feat considering the scope and size of their operations. Charitable givers should feel confident that these national institutions put their donations to good use.
1. Direct Relief
Founded in 1948, Direct Relief is California’s largest international humanitarian nonprofit organization. Direct Relief provides health assistance to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty and disaster – at home and throughout the world. Since 2000, Direct Relief has responded to a wide range of urgent and ongoing health emergencies, by providing more than 3.4 billion dollars in essential material resources – relief and remedies, supplies and equipment, including more than 500 million dollars in assistance in the United States.
2. MAP International
Founded in 1954, MAP International promotes the total health – physical, economic, social, emotional and spiritual health – of impoverished people in over 115 countries through: provision of essential remedies; promotion of community health development and prevention and mitigation of disease, disaster and other health threats. MAP’s international programs help eliminate the causes of sickness and disease by providing relief at no cost, improving water supplies and knowledge about health threats like HIV or AIDS and establishing community directed healthcare training. To maximize the number of lives they reach, MAP International works in partnership programs with over 300 organizations, agencies and health missions around the world.
3. Samaritan’s Purse
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Emergency relief meets desperate needs of victims worldwide. Operation Christmas Child delivers more than 10 million shoebox gifts to poor children in more than 100 countries each year. Their World Mission sends doctors, equipment, and supplies to underprivileged countries. Community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow. Vulnerable children are rescued, taught, fed, clothed, and sheltered, letting them know that God loves them, Jesus died and rose again for them, and they are not forgotten.
4. AmeriCares
AmeriCares is an emergency response and global health organization that saves lives and builds healthier futures for people in crisis in the U.S. and around the world. Since it was established more than 30 years ago, AmeriCares has delivered more than 12 billion dollars in humanitarian aid to 164 countries.
5. Catholic Medical Mission Board
CMMB is a leading faith-based NGO improving global health care for the world’s poor, by building healthy, sustainable communities through community engagement and partnerships. Now entering its second century, CMMB is committed to integrating and focusing its programming around saving the lives of children and mothers by concentrating on leading causes of mortality in targeted communities throughout Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Building around a new CHAMPS which stands for CHildren And Mothers PartnershipS model, that works at both the community and clinical levels in these targeted communities to strengthen health services and address the leading causes of maternal and child death. In addition, our volunteer program provides health and business expertise for community development, and engage with the pharmaceutical industry to help meet the needs of CHAMPS communities and in other areas around the world.
6. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association exists to support and extend the evangelistic calling and ministries of Billy Graham and Franklin Graham by proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all, they can by every effective means available to us and by equipping others to do the same. Billy Graham founded BGEA in 1950 and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, until relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2003. He conducts his ministry through the BGEA, including: the weekly Hour of Decision radio program broadcast around the world on Sundays for over 50 years; television specials which are broadcast in prime time on an average of 150 stations; a syndicated newspaper column called – My Answer; Decision magazine, the official publication of the Association; and World Wide Pictures, which has produced and distributed over 125 productions.
7. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation funded solely by voluntary contributions from members and friends of Rotary who support its mission to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Using Rotary Foundation grants, Rotary’s 34,000 clubs across the globe develop and carry out sustainable humanitarian projects and provide scholarships and professional training opportunities that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sustain mothers and children, improve learning, and strengthen local economies. The Foundation is a worldwide leader in the efforts to eradicate polio through its partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
8. Caring Voice Coalition Inc.

This is an advocate for the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas and resources to help the United Nations solve global problems. they help the UN take its best work and ideas to scale – through advocacy, partnerships, constituency building and fund raising. The UN Foundation, through a sister organization, the Better World Campaign, advocates in support of a strong, effective and fully funded United Nations. A strong UN is the world’s most effective voice for international cooperation on behalf of peace, development, human rights and the environment.
