  Welcome to Elizabeth Arena, MD Elizabeth Arena, MD, is a highly skilled surgeon who is double board-certified in general surgery and complex general surgical oncology. Dr. Arena leads a team of compassionate professionals at her private practice in Beverly Grove, Los Angeles. Dr. Arena and her team offer individualized, comprehensive treatment plans using a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to care. Dr. Arena began her formal education at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She received her medical doctorate from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City, where she graduated with honors in 2005.  Dr. Arena completed a seven-year general surgery residency at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. During her time at Yale, she dedicated two years to basic science research studying electrolyte balance in the gastrointestinal tract. In 2014, she finished a fellowship in surgical oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. With 15 years of experience and expertise, Dr. Arena is one of the most esteemed breast surgeons in the greater Los Angeles area, having the honor of becoming one of the first-ever American Board-Certified Surgical Oncologists. Aside from being an expert in malignant and benign breast conditions, Dr. Arena has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of melanoma and the skin and soft tissue. She maintains an active general surgical practice as well, treating common disorders such as gallstones and hernias. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Sandy Liu is a board-certified physician in oncology. She completed her oncology fellowship at UCLA and Internal Medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C. and her bachelors of science in biology at University of Southern California. Dr. Liu practices general oncology and specializes in genitourinary (GU) cancers which include cancers of the kidney, prostate, bladder, testis, and urethra. She is the sponsoring physician for UCLA VHL Comprehensive Clinical Care Center, which includes a team of VHL specialists working together to provide coordinated care to ensure VHL patients receive access to services and adhere to surveillance guidelines. Dr. Liu is passionate about advancing the field of cancer treatment and is involved in clinical trials, with research interests in immunotherapy and drug development. She is committed to providing high-quality, personal care to patients and their families. About Avo Artinyan, MD, MS Avo Artinyan, MD, MS, is the CEO and founder of Academic Surgical Associates in Glendale, California. A nationally recognized expert and innovator in surgical oncology and colorectal surgery, Dr. Artinyan is a board-certified general surgeon, fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, and colorectal surgeon. Dr. Artinyan is a nationally recognized expert in minimally-invasive gastrointestinal surgical oncology, particularly laparoscopic, robotic, and transanal colon and rectal cancer surgery. He is known for sphincter-preserving and organ-preserving resection techniques for rectal cancer and was among the early developers of transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). He also specializes in the surgical treatment of gastric, pancreaticobiliary, soft tissue, and breast cancers, and other general surgical diseases. As a surgeons surgeon, Dr. Artinyan has been asked to operate on his colleagues, residents, and students. He then completed a three-year clinical and research surgical oncology fellowship at City of Hope Cancer Center focused on gastrointestinal and colorectal surgical oncology as well as robotic surgery. Dr. Artinyan joined the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) faculty in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center in 2009 and established one of the busiest robotic surgical oncology and colorectal surgery programs in the country. He served as the Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at BCM and was recognized with the Fulbright and Jaworski Faculty Excellence Award, the Baylor STAR Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice, and multiple teaching awards. Dr. Artinyan was recruited to Los Angeles in 2018 to serve as the Co-Director of Surgical Oncology for the Verity Medical Foundation to develop a world-class cancer center in the heart of Los Angeles. Dr. Artinyan is active in clinical research and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters. He has been invited as a guest lecturer nationally and throughout the world and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Surgical Research. Dr. Artinyan is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Society of Surgical Oncology, Association for Academic Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
