Huntington's disease is a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time. It's passed on or inherited from a person's parents. It gets gradually worse over time and is usually fatal after a period of up to 20 years.

Huntington's disease is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. The probability of each offspring inheriting an affected gene is 50 percent. Inheritance is independent of gender, and the phenotype does not skip generations.

People with HD usually die within 10 to 30 years following symptom onset, most commonly from infections, most often pneumonia and injuries related to falls. Huntington's disease causes disability that gets worse over time. Currently no treatment is available to slow, stop, or reverse the course of HD

Huntington's Disease was first recognized as an inherited disorder in 1872 when a 22-year-old American doctor, George Huntington, wrote a paper called On Chorea. His paper was later published in the Reporter of Philadelphia and the disorder he described became known as Huntington's Chorea.

First signs of Huntington's disease are - 1. slight, uncontrollable muscular movements 2. stumbling and clumsiness 3. lack of concentration 4. short-term memory lapses.
